Pukerewa Farm Settlement (formerly run by the Department of Lands and Survey) reverted to the Māori owners and was duly constituted Pukerewa A Trust an "Ahu Whenua Trust" in 1981. Over the years, trustees have served on the trust board to provide governance oversight, employing a farm advisor, farm manager, shepherd 2IC, and shepherd general. The Trust has continued to operate as a sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation in much the same way as it had done under the Lands and Survey department (1876-1987).
