Managing Health & Safety Our Way...
The safety and wellbeing of people and livestock is very important to Pukerewa so much so the Station has invested significant resources and training to ensure the Station's health & safety, animal welfare policies and industry standards are maintained. Opportunities for skill development and learning are also discussed and linked to professional development goals involving everyone from the Trustees through to Management and Staff.
The appointment of two Health & Safety Officers ensures potential hazards on farm are regularly reviewed and managed. Weekly toolbox meetings provide opportunities to address health & safety, bio-security and preventative maintenance matters on the Station. Meeting minutes, training records, site specific safety plans, hazard/incident registers including farm reports document what is being done on farm. The next step is to move to a 'smart app' to manage all our Health and Safety needs from our mobile devices which will save time and increase productivity on farm.
